Who are we?

At our organization, we focus on the intricate relationship between European law and the rapidly evolving fields of artificial intelligence and digital technologies. Our dedicated team conducts in-depth research and analysis to understand how legal frameworks shape the development and implementation of these cutting-edge technologies. We take pride in providing insightful and practical resources that empower professionals, policymakers, and stakeholders who must navigate and apply these regulations in real-world scenarios. Through our publications, we aim to foster a deeper understanding of the legal landscape surrounding AI and digital innovations.

Welcome to TechPolicyLab

Tech Policy Lab is an independent research initiative on the law and governance of AI and digital technologies in Europe. Our work centres on the EU AI Act, the GDPR, the Digital Services Act and the Digital Markets Act, and on the practical questions they raise for companies, public bodies and the people affected by automated systems.

Much of current AI regulation relies on checking compliance at a fixed point in time, before a system goes to market. In practice, AI systems change after deployment: models are retrained, updated without notice, or given new tasks. Our main research project looks at what continuous, risk-based oversight could look like under existing EU law, drawing on ISO/IEC 42001, the NIST AI Risk Management Framework and the GDPR. Alongside this, we publish short analyses of new legislation, guidance and case law, and work with researchers and practitioners on joint projects.
